Sacred Smoke: The Art of Cleansing One’s Space

Have you ever felt that despite physically cleaning, you could still feel some sort of heaviness in your space? Maybe it’s time to consider doing a cleansing ceremony? A cleansing ceremony is a spiritual cleansing to get rid of negativity and find balance and harmony in your body, gain more clarity in the direction you want to go in life. Did you know that smoke clearing can shift the energy, reduce the feelings of tension and have a dramatic impact on your environment. It can leave dark and heavy places feeling light, fresh and positive. It’s a great way to help lift negative energies.

There are several reasons why someone might want to cleanse a space. One common reason is to remove negative energy that has accumulated in a space over time. This negative energy can come from past events, negative thoughts or feelings, or even from the energy of other people who have been in the space.  Cleansing can help to clear this negative energy and create a more positive, peaceful environment.

Another reason you may want to cleanse a space is to prepare it for a specific purpose or intention. For example, if you are starting a new business or moving into a new home, you may want to cleanse the space to create a fresh start and set positive intentions for the future

Since ancient times our ancestors have burned sacred herbs using smoke to dispel negativity, raise vibrations and assist in spiritual work. Although it may seem strange and “New Age-y” to some, cleansing is a tradition that goes back thousands of years. But where did originate?  Incense burners have been found to date back to the Egyptians 5th Dynasty about 4,500 years ago. The celts had a practice of “saining” that involved sprinkling of water from a stream and the smoke from burning juniper with prayers or poetry to bless and protect. Palo Santo wood is still used by Amazon Tribes for healing and Shamanic rituals. Catholics are familiar with the scents of burning frankincense and Myrrh in church which dates back to the old testament (Exodus 30:1-10).

The smoke is believed to carry negative energy, spirits, and emotions away, leaving the space or person feeling cleansed and refreshed. As the smoke fills the space, it is thought to attach to negative energy and carry it away, leaving the area with positive energy. Some believe that the smoke has antibacterial properties and can also help to cleanse the air of pollutants. Smoke cleansing  can be a powerful way to release negative energy and set intentions for a fresh start in a space.

Examples of when to Cleanse One’s Space
